End of Year Lists

 As usual, the end of the year brings all types of lists claiming what was the best and what was the worst. Tastes are subjective but I like to use these lists as a tool to discover something new and/ or interesting. Here are some lists I pay attention to:

The Most Popular Hive Fives of 2010

Throughout the year, Lifehacker.com complies lists conducted from surveys, usually asking questions such as, "What Are the Five Best Windows 7 Tweaking Applications" or "What Are The Five Best Music Streaming Services?" By the end, there is usually one winner that is voted upon the most.

Rolling Stone's Top 30 Albums of 2010

I'm not sure what to say about music in 2010 but we did have some interesting releases. According to Rolling Stone, Rick Ross' Teflon Don brings up the end of their top 30 list. Others included are The Roots' How I Got Over; Spoon's Transference; Big Boi's Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty; LCD Soundsystem's This Is Happening; Eminem's Recovery; The Black Keys' Brothers; Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. How Drake's album even made it on the list and was higher than Eminem's is beyond me. And I feel that Kanye West's album is overrated but I will be giving it a few more listens.

I was glad to see Gorillaz's Plastic Beach and Kid Cudi's Man On The Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager on this list.

Metacritic Movies, High Scores by Year

This is actually a filter I use on Metacritic to see the top movies for the year. The site, Metacritic provides a summary of reviews for movies, TV shows, music, video games, and books. For more about their scoring, click here. No surprise that The Social Network is on top from what I've heard. I still need to see it though.

Here is a list I check every year to see how artists I enjoy are doing and discover some new ones. I always appreciated HHS's categories of "Most Lyrical" and "Most Underrated." Unfortunately, they have changed the format over the years and a definitive list has not been released as of yet. In the meantime, I have provided their general Best & Worst list.
